Re: Auctions.
I used to go with Dad, we would go the day before and view, have a good nosey round then on the day I enjoyed the bidding just like you. Neither of us could afford much but Dad did pick up a few pieces of old dark oak, a bookcase, a chair, little boxes, I have them now. We started going back in the 60s, if only we knew then what we know now!Re: Auctions.
There are lots of auctions here, much of the stuff is from house clearance but lots of people take their own stuff to sell. We occasionally go and have a look what there is but I truly can't believe some of the stuff people try to sell, old plastic belts, broken toys and garden furniture, worn out bedding etc more often than not it isn't washed either. I really am amazed at the rubbish some people want to sell.Re: Auctions.
I haven't been for Years, my Mum was a great Auction go-er and I used to Tag along too. I loved mooching about and looking at all the things for Sale. I'm sure that's where I picked up my love of old clocks....the ones you have to wind up with a key. I have several, but my Pride and Joy is my Old Grandfather Clock..Re: Auctions.
A friend and me used to drive regularly around the Country to the jewellery auctions, he did the driving I can't drive, we always picked up some very good bargains, having of course viewed the goods beforehand and setting a limit on how high to bid, that's very important because you can get carried away very quickly in the excitement. Diamond engagement rings could be remounted and sold on, made a good few bob that way.
