Re: Older Drivers
Mollie I think it is up to the individual....their state of health etc. There are one or two 100 year olds still driving.Re: Older Drivers
Re: Older Drivers
I do agree though that it does depend on the individual and I know these days a driver has to have another test or something once reaching the age of 70 - I think.Re: Older Drivers
Re: Older Drivers
My Great grandad had a car in 1915 so a lot of older people years ago did learn to drive.Re: Older Drivers
Both my dad and mum drove and so did one of my grandfathers, but not my grandma. You made me panic Mollie when I read about taking a test at 70. I'm still on the road and would hate to have to stop driving. I would be very aprehensive about taking a test again (don't know how I got through the first one when I was 21 ). I still love to drive, but these days it can be scary and I am not as confident as I was when I am somewhere I have never been before and have to find the directions on my own. I've got a sat.nav. but it seems to be more trouble than it is worth. In a lot of ways my car is like my home on wheels. It carries all sorts of things about and I would hate to have to give it up.Re: Older Drivers
My parents both drove although my Dad gave up quite early as he really didn't enjoy it. My Mum drove until she was 80 at which time she had to renew her licence and made the decision she wouldn't. She was in good health but didn't feel her reflexes were as sharp as they should be. I wish more people would make this decision as there are people driving who shouldn't be and with the speed of traffic on our roads today they run the risk of having an accident injuring themselves and others. It has to be each individual's decision though as some people age better than others.
