Re: £10 notes

I hope you will still be able to change them next year because I have a heap of UK notes (about £500) left over from when I visited a few years ago.

I was thinking of visiting next September when I will want to use them

Think you might come unstuck there Bruce, but I may be wrong.

It depends what denomination they are. £50 and £20 have not been changed yet. It is the £5 and £10 that are no longer valued. But as said in this thread, they can still be changed in the bank

Yes Emjay, but will that still apply if Bruce waits until next year?
I would have thought there was a time limit.

P.S. Apologies Bruce, I have just found this:

Withdrawn banknotes

All Bank of England banknotes keep their face value for all time. If your local bank, building society or Post Office is not willing to accept these notes, then they can be exchanged with the Bank of England in London.

I live abroad and want to exchange withdrawn banknotes. How do I do this?

You can only exchange banknotes at the Bank of England in London. You can either do this in person during business hours, or by post.

Re: £10 notes

Thanks for that. I have to say it is a daft idea our $10 and $5 notes have recently been through a design change but they all remain in circulation. Presumably the banks will slowly withdraw the old ones as they age but there is no limit on their life.

I will have to dig my UK notes out of my safe to see what values I have.

Re: £10 notes

I drew out some money yesterday and was fed up to discover it was all in tenners, which are so slippery they could easily fall out of your pocket or purse.

Re: £10 notes

Drama over folks. I took them into my bank, and there were no problems, and the amount was put into my account.
