Terrible bridge collapse -Italy

A motorway bridge has collapsed in the northwest Italian city of Genoa and fire brigade sources say 35 people were believed killed as vehicles plummeted to the ground.

Awful isn't it? I was watching it on the news, I'm amazed at all the pillars with flats underneath.
Doesn't bear thinking about if the other pillars collapse.

That's odd isn't it. I suppose they just do things differently there.

I hate heights, so when I drive over a high bridge or flyover, I have to put my faith in the fact that thousands of cars use them every day and they are still standing. that would be my worst nightmare I think.

I'm not one for heights either.
In my small brain, I've always wondered, surely heavy or large things built upwards, are liable to fall down.
I could never go in tower blocks. Then I knew a chap who lived on the top floor of a tower block. I went for a coffee and can honestly say, whilst the view was ace, I just wanted to go asap. I felt uneasy being so high up.

The bridge was built in the 60s and was repaired in 2016 and major repairs in 1990s.

How on earth can an industrial country have such a catastrophe ?

I think the management past and present are to be questioned.

I'm the same. I remember when we went to Spain on the coach we drove over the highest bridge I have ever seen and I was so scared I couldn't look down, in fact I closed my eyes till my husband told me it was safe to open them again.

This is awful news, can you imagine going about your daily routine and your car dropping through a bridge, oh my, doesn't bear thinking about.
