Villandry

One of my very favourite places. A lovely chateau and a huge bonus of the most beautiful ornamental vegetable gardens, as well as the formal flower par-terres etc. Lots of pics - I hope you like

For a bit of light relief - the chateau chat

et moi

and now - the veggies!

Sorry - so many pics! (but only a fraction of the literally hundreds we took)

Here's the Villandry website if you would like to know more about it

Re: Villandry

My goodness, what a beautiful place - and those gardens are out of this world, such a lot of work has gone into planning them.

Glad to see you found 'un/e chat' for us Catseyers ....... you're as bad as me!!

I would love to see more of your pics if you have time, DM

Re: Villandry

Thanks Mags

I've still got pics from Chinon and Chenonceaux to Photobucket so, watch this space, as they say.

Villandry is just wonderful. The chateau itself feels 'lived in' (as it is), it has an interesting past and fascinating present, unlike, for instance, Chenonceaux, which I know people rave over but to me feels a little sterile - a musuem exhibit. And those gardens! We spent the whole day there - there's something to see around every corner.

And the perennial puzzle - how do they 'garden' inside the tight box par-terres? How can they plant out all the begonia etc? I think it must involve a step ladder type affair - maybe purpose built - what do you think?

Re: Villandry

I would imagine they used boards and worked backwards inside the planting area

Fantastic I wouldn't fancy clipping all the hedges in the maze though
