I watched it, it was 'ok' but I found the dialogue a bit banal and found myself thinking would people really have used those expressions in the 1780s .

I will persevere with it

Saw this at a friend's house - I much prefer the original.

Lady playing Demelza is no Angharad Rees
and Ross I am afraid will always be Robin Ellis also Jud and Prudy were played so much better by the originals.

I will carry on watching it might get better I guess.

I enjoyed it, took a bit of getting used to but, it wasn't bad. for those who hadn't seen the original it would be fine.

I didn't have a tv when the Mk I version was out, but this Mk II version is perfect Sunday evening fodder, bright sunshine, lovely scenery, scrumptious hero and dear old Warren Clarke in his final role. I'll be sticking with it.

Re: Tall, Poldark and handsome

Main problem I am having is Demelza should be 13 but the lady playing her looks well into her 20s. Angharad Rees
managed to play her at 13 and right through her life without looking too old or too young at any point.

Re: Tall, Poldark and handsome

Interesting article I was reading that Winston Graham hated the first series and wouldn't watch it. His daughter says that he was disgusted that they made Demelza into a "floozy" when she was not at all like that in the books. He was very upset about the scene where she offers to drop her knickers for a shilling because he had modelled her on his wife and felt betrayed by the production. His daughter says he would have approved of this series because it is much more faithful to the books.

I really enjoyed it and thought Aidan Turner was just right for the part and the scenery was much better than the first series. Mind you I agreed with another article which criticised the scar on his face - very poorly done by the make-up people!

Re: Tall, Poldark and handsome

Oddly I read another article where he loved the original but thought Angharad was miscast but by the 3rd episode he couldn't imagine anyone else playing the part.
Perhaps he later embraced the love any had for the show and saw it for what it was ?
