Meals in the 1950s

Did anyone watch the programme about the food we ate in the 1950s. It was so bad, unbelievably incorrect, and the woman who was the wife was absolutely useless in the kitchen. I wonder if they will make a mess of the 1960s too.

I did wonder how correct it was I know in the 60's my Nan was still cooking as she did in the 50s for us and I don't remember too many of those awful meals. Liver was cooked fresh not served cold and unappetising like that

It reminded me totally of my Gran's kitchen but her food was more interesting because she had a garden, made full use of all the herbs she grew and my Granda managed to get rabbits for the pot!

The total absence of snacks was something I'd forgotten about. No overweight people then!

OH and really enjoyed this, I cant understand how that woman didnt know how to use a can opener..
Im only 50 and I remember those things..

Her cooking skills are near zero, no wonder the children didnt want the liver it looked awful and nothing like the soft tasty meat my mum always served.

Re: Meals in the 1950s

It was the 60's for me and i don't think there was much change in the meals. Mince and tatties, corned beef hash. My gran and auntie liked tripe - I've never tasted it. We were just talking yesterday about Ski Yogurt being the in thing. Especially the hazelnut one. I loved Spam and asked for it every day although i was a very fussy eater and ate different from the rest of the family. I couldn't eat a breakfast. I'd be physically sick. Changed days as I could eat anytime now! My hips prove it Pizza in the 60's? Never heard of it.

I don't eat meat but I remember all the wife's family relishing stuffed cows heart every now and then, beef hearts I think they were called and they had to be ordered a week beforehand in the butchers.
