I first realised i had road rage issues when i yelled out to someone..."Come on, pick a lane you A'hole" when i was in Sainsburys.

Taking off wet wellies/snow boots, your sock comes off and you stand in a wet patch you made with your boots with a naked foot! Urgh!

The term African American annoys me when used as a euphemism for a black person in case calling them black offends.

For sure, their forbears may have been taken from Africa and sold as slaves. For starters, I suspect the vast majority have never set foot on the African continent. And not all Africans are black. Roger Whittaker comes to mind for example.

Just to be clear, I have no bias or issues with anyone's ethnicity. But do we need to resort to this sort of inaccuracy to avoid perceived potential offence?

Should we call Jimmy Carter a European American?

... not knowing what term to use. For example, blacks were negros, then blacks, then coloured, now black is the OK word again. Likewise chairman, chairwoman, chairperson, chair, chairman (yes for women too).

But why do we need to invent words do describe races just in case we might cause offence? Who actually gets offended?

I'm Caucasian. I would not be offended in the slightest if someone called me white. I had ginger hair, one of my physics lecturers referred to me as Ginge. No offence intended or taken. So why should we skirt around the word black when we refer to a negroid person?
