All the judiciary, especially our judges, have a very lucrative lifestyle, salaries in £150K region, chauffeur limosines, private accomodation when away from home (No Premiere Inns for them
)
If crime went down (Which it would if proper sentancing was applied) then the judges and all the other 'hangers on'
would have NO JOB so of course they
do everything they can to avoid this.
If that means handing down pathetic sentances then so be it.
Don't ever think that being a judge makes you an honourable person
Thank you. I have said as much in the past, though in an ironic way. If it is true that they do this for their own benefit, and that it can be proved that they do so, then there should be severe consequences for them.
Alternatively, the government should set
minimum sentences for each given crime. Additional penalties when appropriate could also be specified.
Another alternative, which I have stated before, could be public election of judges which could be based on their history of convictions and sentencing.
