However, we are at perfect liberty to discuss the matter!

I agree with what others have said; that this demonstrates exactly how the EU strives to control fully its 'member states', which relates exactly to how they are attempting to bully us into agreeing to remain, at least in some part, subject to their rules if we want a trade agreement with them.

Significant, too, that they demanded no such 'agreements' of Canada and Japan - for some reason!
Perhaps it's something to do with our proximity to their empire, or perhaps it's because we were once part of their empire and they want to discourage anyone else from escaping. The latter, of course, is almost certainly the real reason!
It's because they are scared rigid of a deregulated country on their door step out performing every one of the 27 in terms of economy, unemployment and law. If we leave without any ties to the EU and we are an enormous success (as we will do) it will prove the EU membership is a complete disaster.

The EU is a zombie project with a zombie economy and zombie industries. All that QE over the past 10 years hasn't worked, it didn't solve the problems of unemployment, inflation and economic growth in the Eurozone and now the EU budget is on hold (thanks to Poland and Hungary), the death spiral of the Euro starts to take place.

Two options ...

1. The EU overrule Poland and Hungary and push the budget forward without their approval and hence destroy the illusion of democracy.

2. The Eurozone collapses and with it the EU when the member states such as Italy and Spain implode and then start a run on the Euro banks when they start to go bankrupt like in 2008.

I predicted this about 9 months ago and also the mutualised debt policy.

I agree. I and others have often said that our leaving the EU will initiate its eventual break-up. And not before time.

Re: Poland & Hungary Threaten Veto to EU Stimulus Package

I think we all know which way things are headed, and German Europe Minister Michael Roth gives a big hint when he said today that European Union members who reject the rule of law mechanism must be aware that their citizens will have to pay a price for this stance.
And so the typically-EU coercion continues.

What will be next?
Bribery - we know the EU aren't averse to that tactic?
Or subversion?
Like deciding the budget and the associated conditions all of a sudden can be ratified by majority vote, thus bypassing the vetoes?

Interesting times lay ahead for sure.

The dissenters in Nazi Germany had to pay rather more severe penalties!

The EU aren't doing very well ar getting member countries to agree, are they?
Bulgaria has blocked Macedonia from starting EU accession talks.

Albanian accession continues though ......... and as another of Europe's poorest countries it will no doubt soon be depleting EU coffers.

Talking of which, has there been any suggestion by the EU - official or unofficial - of their wish to welcome an independent Scotland into their fold?

Of course, Scotland would probably be a non-contributory member should that happen, but on the other hand they do possess extensive fishing areas.

Nah, there were mutterings recently about Merkel's administration making friendly noises but - honestly - it is very unlikely.
Not only because of budgetary problems but because of Spain; there is just no way could Spain allow a newly-independent Scotland to become a member when they won't accept a Catalonian referendum.

And besides those ickle pwoblems it is unlikely that independence will happen any time soon.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about Catalonia.

Neither were ever part of the USSR.

That is one of Scotlands biggest stumbling blocks if it gets that far.
Not to mention the seperatist movements in France/Spain with Basques; Germany with Bavaria; and far, far more - which, before people start the "no chance" retorts was what used to be thought about Scottish independence - which could well be encouraged by such a new member country.
