Under normal circumstances Twink, once you start running blood is diverted away from the stomach and bowel and redirected to the buttock and leg muscles.

Depending how fast you run will determine to what degree the stomach and bowel shuts down. Therefore it is very rare that you would be caught short while out running. Only twice in forty years of running have I needed to break my run for a toilet visit.

In the case of Paula Radcliffe, she had an upset stomach even before she started to run.

Edited to add....I also pee a lot
Peeing too often is a sign that you are drinking too much fluid Nicol, and it can be harmful. Drinking too much can also wash away any vitamin supplements before they have been absorbed into the body....

Re: Drinking fluids.

We are told as teachers that we should SIP water all day everyday
I'm the worst... I'm c*** at it!

I start every term with vigour then about 3 days in I'll have
One half pint water with squeezed lemon... early morning
One pomegranate juice..before school
One coffee..morning break
One diet coke..before/during evening meal
Half pint water before bed

I'm surprised I'm not shrivelled like a prune!!!

Now what is ment by fluid?
Does that mean just plain water or can that be a mix of water, tea, fruit juice, Milk, etc?
I need to know.
An interesting coincidence.

After being ill in India last year and couldn't keep anything down, I was told by the quack that my kidney function had been affected (slightly) and that I must drink 2 litres of fluid a day.

Fluid, of course, means any liquid. I keep a 2 litre bottle of water handy so I can gauge how far I have yet to manage in the day. It's not exactly difficult, but I have to keep remembering it! Of course, I drink other things as well (including Port!).

(Incidentally, my kidney function now seems to have returned to normality.)
