Micro SD Card

My new phone provides extra storage on a Micro SD card - up to 128 GB. Prices seem to vary quite a lot:
Ebay £7.95 for a "Genuine" Sandisk 128GB
Currys £22 for a Sandisk 64 gb
Amazon £16.49 for a Kingston 128 GB.

Which one to buy?..............preferably one I can just put into the card slot and use.........no formatting required....no technie stuff!

What he said...

The only other thing you might look for is an online company that specialises in selling memory cards they might be even cheaper than Amazon. I use one in Aus that rejoices in the name "Cheap Chips"

Any formatting your phone can take care of but usually a new chip is automatically OK but anyway it is easy in Android

Settings > Storage > SD Card > Format or Erase SD Card

It is just a holder so the micro SD Card can fit in a standard SD slot. Can be quite useful if you want to transfer files to a laptop computer with a standard SD Card slot or use the memory card in a camera.

Thanks Bruce. I was thinking that if I exceeded my 32GB storage on my phone, things would just automatically get stored on the SD card. Is that the case? If so..........I guess transferring things like photos from the SD card to computer, is going to need a holder?
Or............if I transfer everything on the DCIM.......won't the overfall storage on the sim, then transfer itself to the DCIM automatically?
Hope I don't have to do anything technical........

No. Once a memory card is installed the camera automatically records photos on the SD card (though it might ask you first, I can't remember). Some of the apps/programs can be transferred to the memory card which saves precious memory in the phone but, again from memory, you have to do this yourself.

The memory card is also a good place to store/back up your contact list.

BTW I have never had a memory card bigger than 32Gb in my phone and have never even got close to filling it so 128Gb will probably last for ever. Its the photos that consume space.

Re: Micro SD Card

I have an iPhone 6s Plus 128gig and as you can see loads of memory left despite having maybe 500 photos and lots of videos stored so that may give you some idea how large 128 is ( I’d say 32 is fine and 64 you would never fill)

I fly drones and these have 4K HD cameras ( 20 megapixle ) and these things eat micro card storage and need fast speed cards ( I buy 10s and always use SANDISK ) at the top end of the price scale due to the numbers they have to crunch playing /recording video however for normal phone use this isn’t really an issue as you want purely storage so you could possibly buy a cheaper card .

Another way I store /transfer from phone to laptop is a USB FLASHDRIVE , similar to a memory card but comes with phone connector one end , usb the other and you simply upload photos /videos etc to it every so often and transfer to laptop or vice Versa ... handy little tool .
But basically I find sandisk are best and I’d suggest 64 will be more than large enough

Thanks Bruce. I've just replaced my 16gb iphone 5s with a 32gb Moto G6 Play and have already used 75% of storage, so a bit more storage will be good.
