Re: Happy Birthday to the 'New Pence'.

I worked in a bank, hadn't been there long, and we were where people came if they had any questions. We often worked from 9am till 10pm owing to all the extra work, so the only life I had was work or sleep for a couple of weeks.

The manager was a good though because, when we balanced each night, he would open a bottle of wine & some party food.

Re: Happy Birthday to the 'New Pence'.

I try to use 'penny' and 'pence' where possible, but 'pee' is so common that sometimes I slip and use that

I remember thinking when the change to decimal currency was announced, and then took place "about time too"

I think the change to decimal currency was a sensible thing to do anyway, but with hindsight, I wonder if it was the start of preparing us up to join the EEC?

For items that are less than £1.00 - has anyone reconverted the cost back into the old pre-decimal coinage???

See a Penny
Pick it up
All that day
You'll have good luck

See a Euro
leave it be
You'll put your back out
Or twist your knee.

Re: Happy Birthday to the 'New Pence'.

Is it my imagination or did we still have shillings?

When the new money came in the shilling coin became 5p?

All the time, I still work in shillings and `bobs`. Even my grand-kids know what thirty bob is when I say it. (£1.50 for any millennials looking in ). Who still doesn't say they can save or spend a few bob on something?
