Can I have a "T" please Bob?
A couple of letters had fallen off the house sign. One was on the ground nearby but the letter T from FRUI
TCAKE FOLLY was nowhere to be found.
The original sign was a kit consisting of a metal plate and a bag of plastic letters. I couldn't find a replacement letter so set about making one. The only material I could find of the correct thickness was a piece of angle iron salvaged from an old bedstead.
Using my O - Level Metalwork skills I set about making a new letter that would suit the sign to a T.
I cut a small rectangle from one side of the angle iron then marked out the shape of the T with pencil followed by centre punch dots, just as I had been taught.
Judicious use of an abrafile and clips in my trusty old hacksaw and the letter started to appear.
Nearly there, ready to reposition in the vice.
Next to the donor bedstead iron, just a bit of fettling needed and nobody will know it's not the original.
It's now glued in place ready for painting tomorrow before re-attaching the sign to the front of the Folly.
A simple but satisfying job done.
