Honda plant closure

HONDA are closing in Swindon and I’ve no doubt brexit will be blamed as it’s an ideal opportunity to blame something other than their own designers in making such a pigs ear of the styling of the civic ( my god it’s ugly ) ruining what was their top selling car ... and of course our silly government killed diesel sales ( again it was the top selling engine in the civic ) on all car manufacturers but I feel Honda aren’t just stopping because of brexit and this is a smoke screen for their own design faults coupled with a failed government that kills anything it touches making it ideal time for Honda to not only say goodbye to Swindon but to leave Europe altogether

It's a shame because Honda have produced some great vehicles in the past but I understand they have been having problems lately.

Re: Honda plant closure

The media have said over and again that this is nothing to do with Brexit. The diesel clampdown will have a big effect on some manufacturers. But Honda haven't really moved well with the times. While other manufacturers have caught up on reliability. Honda is pricey but no longer sexy.

Great chance for a British manufacturer to take over all of it and produce a car that is all british built. Bring back the Morris Minor

realspeed, l thought that too about a British company taking over the premises to manufacture cars.... but not like Leyland!

I feel for all the people who will be affected and are going to lose their jobs and maybe, their homes too.

Lets be honest here, it's no surprise companies like BL went to the wall is it?

Moronic managers / designers / crap build quality / Unions...etc

Re: Honda plant closure

The motor industry is a dead parrot ....the governments didn’t so much as throw a spanner in the works as throw a nuclear missile at the car industry and that isn’t just here but right across Europe when they announced diesel is the devils chariot and electric is coming by law ready or not ( where not ready and never will be but never let that stop a government plans )

So it matters not any more if you are rolls Royce Ferrari or bmw as all your development work ... throw it in the bin ... all your new model ideas ... bin ... your projected sales figures ... bin ... investment plans ...bin ..
The motor industry something that has evolved over a century of customer wants and needs with a few dreams thrown in has ended and electric is the way forward .
The companies know deep down EVERYONE isn’t going to rush out to buy a brand new car and that electric cars in the real world simply can’t compete for range and ease of ownership so they stop investing however new car companies will pop up like Tesla and I imagine lots of others too but governments and lack of thought and joined up thinking killed car industry . Good news for the 3rd world however as they will continue unhindered and mobile

Re: Honda plant closure

I am sure somewhere the plans and diagrams needed to build say a Morris minor must still exist , or use and existing one for a copy. That would cut out most of the design work already, making it quicker to start production
