Divorced but still best of friends with my ex ,
Three daughters who I socialise with and are still very much in my world as much as I’m in theirs ... I’d say I’m single but still very much ‘family’

That's a tough question, so many variables.

Re: how close are you to your family?

My original family i.e. the one I grew up with is now just my sister, who has a son who is my nephew. Funnily enough she texted me today and we're meeting up for a coffee next month. We see each other every 2-3 months for a catch-up which is just about right

The family I 'joined' when I met my wife and got married is enormous. She has two sisters, three remaining brothers and all their families. We get together at weddings, milestone birthdays and funerals.
Mrs. Floydysaurus has two daughters who are now of course my stepdaughters, 36 and 33. (That's their ages, not their names). One has two lovely children who are my grandkids, a girl, 8 and boy, 6. I see these regularly and love it. The family I never had myself.

I see a lot of all the remaining members, more so than some of the immediate folks do.

Re: how close are you to your family?

I'm very close with my dad and was with my mum god rest her soul. My son and I are very close and I'm very close with one of my nieces and my nephew. My extended family not close at all except for strangely enough I have a strong bond with my family in America (my Auntie was a GI bride and moved over there in the 60s) and I've seen them more than I see my cousins over here. We ring each other and message all the time. I wish they lived over here, I'm especially close to one of my cousins over there.

I do try with my cousins over here but I have found it's always me who makes a move to contact them and if I don't they don't bother with me.

I am closer to my best friend than many of my family, we are more like sisters.
