Re: Olympics

Rescheduling for the same time next year, logical option. IOC
taking huge risk, just how bad does the situation have to get.

Re: Olympics

I am sure that I read last year that it is costing them US$12Billion that is a lot of money to put into something for absolutely no return if the Games are cancelled.

Most countries hold an Olympic Games because they expect it to boost their economy by increasing tourism (That was certainly the case with "...the best games ever" in 2000)

Japan has never fully recovered from the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 and to have spent all this money for no return must be galling. No wonder they want it to go ahead.

Re: Olympics

I'm sure the games could carry on at a later date this year, and still be well represented.

But would later this year be safe ? Guess we take each day/week or month at a time.

And if suggesting they can go ahead in July, is absolute codswallop ( which I believe it is ) why haven't the W H O say so.

Re: Olympics

It's been announced that both Canada and Australia have pulled their teams from this year's Olympics.

Re: Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has announced it is considering a possible postponement of the Tokyo Games and will finalise a decision within four weeks as the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread.

The IOC said discussions would include an option of pushing back the July 24 start date or even moving the Games by at least a year, but said cancelling the event would not solve problems or help anybody

No one here thinks that it will take place this year and are planing for July 2021

Under mounting pressure from athletes, federations and national committees to postpone the Games, the IOC did a partial U-turn on Sunday after long insisting, with Tokyo organisers, that the Games would go ahead as planned.

Only last week the IOC president, Thomas Bach, insisted that there was "No Plan B".

How true Bruce. Did you see them live? I was lucky to as the missus worked for one of the major sponsors. Treated us like royalty. A plush hotel, chauffeur driven to and from stadium.. all tickets free for all sports.. when available.
