HAS BEEN CASTRATED.
Since a cow is female it can not be castrated. On the other hand a bull being male could be castrated.

Why not just Google. "cow"?

I’ve been ran off by mules who were protecting cows but not cows themselves.

Think it was cows but yes, it was poor the old gentleman who was who was perished.
