If memory serves, I believe that there are settings that can be amended which prevent some words (eg expletives) from being displayed. This list is editable, so the mods could add abbreviations of their choice to it, thus enticing posters to go back and amend their wording

The mods have nothing to do with the technical side of the forum, Dex.

Re: Do You Use ‘Forum Lingo’?

The only abbreviation I use is OH for other half, when I type about my late husband or others partners. At least I think it is. Texting I do use more as it makes the message shorter & easier to type.

I don't use any abbreviations in writing, typing or text.

I have noticed the use of ‘meds’ now when referring to medicines. It sounds very American!

DGC = dear grandchildren. Yes, meds is used a lot, and I can cope with that, but when people start a thread saying their DH has EDS* or CAD** (I thought that was computer aided design ), I just stop reading. Sorry, but if you can't be bothered typing it out, then I can't be bothered reading it.

Re: Do You Use ‘Forum Lingo’?

Hi

When I was working I had an automatic reply set up to every email I received.

I must admit I got someone to do it for me.

It went something like this.

Thank you for your email.

If it is in language I can understand, I will read it and respond.

I will not however respond to those which state that if I do do not respond within X you will assume that you have permission to proceed.

If I do not respond positively you will have no permission to proceed,.

Re: Do You Use ‘Forum Lingo’?

Oh dear (meant as I have spelled it) ! I am still working out what DO is for!

A few years on forums apparently is not enough time for the shortcuts to sink in.
