Re: Over 55s Park Home living

Am I getting confused? I though these places had closed periods to stop people living in them for a full 12 months.

Some do, Dex, it depends on the park. One near me lets you stay for 50 weeks....they only need two weeks closing to do repairs and maintenance. Usually over Christmas when its quiet and folks are with their families (normally)

Re: Over 55s Park Home living

Some do, as the the couple in Combe Haven lived as a home but ..they had to find elsewhere to live for a few weeks each year.....January I think it was. The other one I talked of was 52 weeks, constant living....

Re: Over 55s Park Home living

Thanks. Thought there was some legal reason for it to maintain a temporary accommodation status as part of the ground lease requirements. This is a bit of a guess though and based on speculative hearsay rather than any actual research.

Re: Over 55s Park Home living

My only concern is... are they classed as ‘temporary’ homes?

Not sure Arty - you mean in terms of council tax, etc?

Re: Over 55s Park Home living

In any case, I've yet to hear of any static caravan that increases in value over time. Suspect the same is true for timber or placcy cabins.

No Pixie... l meant in terms of how long they last.
When you buy a house they are built of bricks and mortar and will last for years. Would a park home last as long?

Indeed. As I recall, static caravans are given the status of being not-permanent on the basis that they have wheels even though these are never actually used, and it may well be the case that timber cabins are classed as temporary (which is why, more often than not, planning permission isn't required to shove one in your garden).

I read that they need regular painting and re sealing every 2 to 3 years which would be costly and an inconvenience to me as I got older because it would be my last home . And yes they depreciate.
