Does your local leisure centre offer concessions?

Many council run leisure centres offer concessions such as free swimming for the over 55s - does yours? If so, what does it offer?

No, not around here. Full prices apply to both men and women up to the age of 65.

The local swimming pool offers concessionary rates to oldies - not sure what the age is - and to anyone on benefit.

They also have a twice weekly swimming session solely for over 50s. I went once - there was a lot more chatting going on than swimming!

There are classes for over 50's and they are at a special price but they are all during the daytime so no use to us working folk!

Swimming is free to all over 60 & there is also a monthly membership concession fee of £18 for use of the gym, all facilities (sauna etc.), & exercise classes. I try to use the gym, exercise class, & 2 aquafit classes every week. Worth the modest fee provided it is used. I must try harder, I must try harder! Children also get free swimming in school holidays.

The local swimming pool used to be free for everybody then the council decided to heat it so it could open all year round.

They now charge $4.90 (£2.45) for Adults and $3.10 (£1.55) for Concession (children and Pensioners)

Now it is hardly used because 10 minutes away are council pools that are still free. Talk about shooting themselves in the foot.

It has three pools an Olympic size for laps, one for toddlers and teens to play in and a paddling pool for tinys. There is a Leisure Centre nearby with Gym etc but while they are both council owned they are not connected
