Television presenters

Why on earth does the BBC continue to wheel out the likes of Gloria Hunniford, Angela Rippon and Julia Somerville with their dated, condescending presenting style. They have no credibility and clearly know nothing about the topics they spout on about and are decades past their sell by dates.

You say . . . "Decades past their sell by dates"?

Why Ray, just because they are mature women you think they shouldn't have a job?

There are plenty of old duffers of the male variety still working in TV!

I find the three of them really annoying, particularly Gloria Hunniford although I have heard that she is one of the nicest TV people you could hope to meet. I think the reason they are there is because older people trust them.

I prefer them to Lorraine Kelly though who is an overpaid idiot.

Re: Television presenters

I think it's nice to have older presenters of both sexes, and maybe older female ones in particular.

However, I agree that Gloria Hunniford and Angela Rippon's style of presenting really grates. It's why I don't watch their programmes any more.

That, and because I once saw them presenting a rip-off thing, and a food thing, both of which I knew something about, and they totally sensationalised and exaggerated things that really didn't warrant it, so I lost faith in their professionalism.

I haven't watched Julia Somerville, so can't comment on her style.

Quite right Mups, the BBCs sins cover the whole spectrum
of their operations imo,
What about the nomber of weather forecasts & forecasters
that are employed at present? How many forecasts do we
need each day FGS!
The number of programnes involving food preperation etc
are also excessive imo! A lot of which involve only chopping
up tettuce leafs and cucumbers or baking a few scones!
Judging by what l hear from the media, these people are
extremely well paid, once again imo, excessively so!
TV game shows, allthough sometimes entertaining could
also do with culling!
We are talking about the BBC here, not other stations, as
the Beeb gets revenue from licence fees, and thus has a
duty towards licence holders to provide entertaining and
instructive programnes!
I think that if they cut back on the excess and froth they
will save a lot of money and would then not have to talk
about depriving pensioners of one of the few benifits they
receive!
I believe they also employ firms to give them advice and
suggestions as to running the BBC?
That is what the actual management is supposed to do isnt
it?

Best Regards Donkeyman!

Re: Television presenters

I rarely watch any TV program that is "Presented by" since I know that the program will feature the presenter more than the subject. I used to like watching history documentaries on TV but the profusion and inclusion of "presenters" who get up my nose has made that almost impossible. Examples include:

Dan Snow
Sam Willis
Lucy Worsley
Ruth Goodman
Bettany Hughes
Suzannah Lipscomb
Alice Roberts

Nowadays, I usually download documentaries that are "Narrated by" .....
