Just to whet your whistle further here are some photos of the Trattoria Povoledo I mentioned and which has great reviews across TripAdvisor:Doesn't look much from this side:
But walk through and you get seated here

What a great place Venice is and we were so lucky with the weather. It was in the 20's every day apart from Monday, when we came home.Realist - we went to the Povoledo and loved it
We had an 8pm booking, but got there far to early. Had a chat with the manager and he showed us to our table, no problems. Many thanks for the recommendation, even though we were staying right by St Marks, it made it all worth while getting there.I will try to upload some photos now.
The first is the outside, second the meat machine and third in the dining area.

We did try a few Aperol Spritz and it is quite pleasant. We bought a bottle home with us. We have friends over tomorrow night that visited Venice a couple of weeks before we did. So, we shall have an Aperol to welcome them, then Italian food and drink all night. We even bought home 4 cheap White masks for a bit of a laugh. Thanks again for the heads up.
I'll post a couple of other piccys soon. Just one thing, I managed to get the photos on here, but the thumbnail images were still there - any clues to what I am doing wrong?
