You are right about infection rates in Australia being small potatoes compared to Europe and the USA but every health expert disagrees with your second para. It is entirely because of the restrictions imposed because of scientific and health advice that we are small potatoes compared to Europe.

Who else shut their borders completely and early? We saw the dramatic rise in cases in Victoria which was initially slow to react but eventually quelled by severe enforced restrictions over a period of months. Likewise the UK Strain in Queensland.

It is strict enforcement and compliance that has been the key to our success so far. New Zealand has been even more successful.

We learned how not to do it from the USA, UK and Europe.

As for Twinks comments we have dealt with this elsewhere but Australia is one of the most urbanised populations on the planet . something like 40% of the total population live in Melbourne and Sydney. Sure if you removed the state capitals what Twink says is true there is little covid in regional areas but over 90% of the population live in those capital cities.
I have a lot of family and friends living in Australia Bruce. They love it there but all recognize that , in some things, the UK is better! I have been a member here for years and often read your posts but I always wonder why you try to make the UK sound so bad.
I am certain that if the UK had as much land as Australia they wouldn't all live in busy cities, they would live in houses where, if your neighbour sneezed in the garden, they would not live close enough for the infected droplets to reach your bins. Covid cases are high in the UK & caused by living so close together so perhaps Australia can learn from us and build homes & shops on the excess of grounds they have. Believe me, British people learned from the Australians and most now use high factor sun creams, or sun block, to make sure our cases of skin cancer are reduced when visiting hot countries.
I always think that criticizing others achieves nothing, but putting our heads together to find a solution can help everybody!

I am not trying to make Britain sound bad - in the post you quoted I don't think I even mentioned Britain at all except in passing. Perhaps you imagined it? If I make any criticism it is reserved for your government.

I think everybody likes to criticize governments, but all governments have info that is not released to the public.... so most criticisms are not based on facts, just media ideas.

1) I am not big supporter of Boris but he has managed to get us out of the EU ( something the EU never wanted to happen over the last 4 years).
2) He is trying to get us through this pandemic yet make sure our economy doesn't collapse.
3) He is trying to prevent illegal immigrants crossing our borders, when it seems that the UK is where they all want to live.
4) On top of that he was rushed onto hospital with the Covid virus himself, at a time when he has a new baby.

We can all criticize any mistakes he makes, but I doubt any other person could have dealt with all these situations easily & I think that criticism from anybody. who hasn't had to deal with them, is unjustified!

Every time I see Boris I want to sit him down and tidy his hair but then I think it is good to see that he has other priorities than looking good himself!
