I have to conclude that some of the posters here have very hard (or is it soft?) water.
My kettles last many many years. I've probably had 3 kettles in the last 15 years if not longer. I never get any "bits" in the bottom, no scale, no calcification etc.
I thought those with water supplies that lead to scale problems tend to have de-scaling units attached to their water systems. Is this not true? If your water is clogging up kettles then it presumably is doing the same to your dishwasher, washing machine, hot-water tank and so on.
If that were the case surely you would fit some kind of hard-water unit rather than try to keep de-scaling everything. I assume I am missing something.
