Noisy cold water.

The mains cold domestic water system has become increasingly noisy when any tap is turned on. The house has five connected taps, some a bit noisier than others. Does this mean a new main cock in the house, as is washer could be breaking up.

I see they are only a few pounds, and would take a plumber probably half an hour to swap - but is it the cause?

Would welcome any suggestions please folks.

My hubby say's try closing the main stop tap a little bit to reduce the heavy flow.

Hope this works Dobra

The stopcock does not lower the pressure, but the flow. However, altering it should give a pointer to what's causing the noise.

Could well be some air locking in the pipe work, usually a knocking sound might indicate this. Im no plumber but it may be your system needs draining then refilling. Im sure someone will have better advice.

Re: Noisy cold water.

High water pressure will cause that and turning the stopcock off a bit could do the trick as said.

There is a device called a Pressure Reducer too that works a bit differently to turning the stopcock. We had one fitted because the water pressure is so high here.

Thanks for the replies folks. Unfortunately, I don't have a pressure gauge, but the mystery is there = this is a recent thing, so maybe .....

I would have suggested turning the stopcock a little.
