Oops! The main thingy on the heating whatsit was turned to 0!

I've turned it up to the highest now and there's sounds of gurgling and the like. fingers crossed.

You mean the room thermostat. Ideally set between 19 - 21 degrees for your comfort. Also, if you have thermostatic radiator valves ( trv's ) on your rads ( the ones with numbers on ) remember to keep the doors closed. This heats the room sooner and shuts the boiler down - therefore, saving you money.

No replies this morning to emails sent around various sites yesterday, including one to the engineer!

The radiators went cold around 7pm last night, except for the one in the bathroom. The usuals came on this morning with the timer, but the one in the far bedroom and at the other end of the house in the conservatory are still cold.

I'll try shutting down the radiators and opening them up again in turn again later. Back to the coal fire again, I suppose.
