Call the midwives

I just love that programme... It's so brilliantly produced and acted and the storylines are so evocative of the times .... In tonights story - the three neglected children who were sent to Australia on the child migration scheme. No happy ending there but so true to life - I know somebody that happened to.

Re: Call the midwives

Ive just been looking through Newspapers from 1800/1950 at these cases of Neglect ,there was so many of them.Including in my distant family.
And it was mainly the parents spending their money on beer that brought these neglect cases not of poverty .

Re: Call the midwives

It is a fantastic programme and based on a true account by a midwife of that time.

Some of the storylines are just heart wrenching

I thoroughly enjoy it. Aren't the births realistic (I saw my second son born ).

A really enjoyable start to the new series although quite upsetting scenes. Two great series on a Sunday night. I love Last Tango In Halifax too.

Re: Call the midwives

Agree on all counts. I thought it was very sad that the girls were separated from the boy like that.

I love the show too.

I think they ran out of the plots detailed in the books quite some time ago, and the episodes are now purely fictional even if they do include historical detail from the time. I liked the first couple of series even if the episodes were a bit twee at times, but the later episodes became really syrupy. I went off the series at that point.
