Re: War & peace.

Respect for the dead?

They were in shock, but not enough in shock. Whatever they'd been through they were essentially unchanged, (lessons had not been learned).

Re: War & peace.

Now that I have seen the TV version, do I need to carry on reading the book?
I suppose I could find and watch the black and white film version.

Re: War & peace.

Dip into the book and see if you think it's worth it. Better than the TV version of course but time-consuming.

I'm still laughing about Mama having to darn her own stockings.

That last scene looked like an ad, didn't it?

I find the sound on a lot of TV drama's needs sorting out, music far too loud & when anyone talks, the sound is so low you can't hear them. Not just on War & Peace either, a lot of the programs.

Is that the 1956 film version with Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer?
Saw that ages ago and loved it.

Re: War & peace.

We use the subtitles option which is now available on most programmes.

I agree about uninvolving (and in that I think true to the book), I know we are supposed to sympathise with Pierre and Natasha but I couldn't really care about them.

It was funny when it wasn't meant to be.

Re: War & peace.

I liked the ending, it was a happy one, after what they had all been through.
I don't think I'll bother to get the DVD's though.

Re: War & peace.

Happy for those rich few.

(The dead soon forgotten.)

Not so happy for the majority.
