Covid-19: UK first in Europe to pass 60,000 Covid deaths

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55176614

More than 60,000 people in the UK have now died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, official figures show.

A further 414 were recorded on Thursday, taking the total to 60,113.

Two other ways of measuring deaths - where Covid is mentioned on the death certificate, and the number of "excess deaths" for this time of year - give higher total figures.

Only the US, Brazil, India and Mexico have recorded more deaths than the UK, according to Johns Hopkins University.

However, the UK has more deaths per 100,000 people than any of those nations.

In terms of deaths per 100,000 people, the UK is the seventh highest country globally, behind Belgium, San Marino, Peru, Andorra, Spain and Italy.
The latest daily figures for the UK also showed a further 14,879 people have tested positive for Covid-19, taking the UK's total cases to 1,674,134.
That is an appalling indictment of the government's response so far - mass vaccination and mass testing may yet prove the saviour of the country but too many people have died or been left with permanent ill-health due to incompetence from the government and it's private-sector "partners".

Italy are going through a bad spell just now as well, 23,225 new cases and 993 deaths.

There are reports here that the actual UK deaths are over 70,000 and that the UK government has massaged the figures to make them seem better than the reality.

I do recall the number of deaths dropped by 5000 in one day when the government changed the recording criteria.

Yes, I've been following the stats and Italy really are having it bad and have been for a good while.

Who are these people saying the deaths are over 70,000? Experts? or media muck.

It could quite well be a lot more than has been said, I don't think it would be easy to get it spot on. The governments of some countries I believe are telling huge lies in their figures.........China for one and we don't even know the figures of North Korea, now that would be interesting to know.

I posted:

More than 70,000 excess deaths during the pandemic

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54976362

2,225 deaths involving Covid-19 were registered in the week of 6 November, up by 628 in a week.

Deaths registered for any reason were 15% above the level expected at this time of year.

The total number of "excess" deaths, those above expected levels, since the start of the pandemic is now 70,839

Most of these deaths occurred in the first wave: the weeks since the start of October account for just over 5,500 of that total.

Well here are a few UK news agencies who have reported this:

The BBC
Daily Mail
UK News Yahoo
Newschain UK
The National Scot
Irish Examiner
Herald Scotland
The Guardian
The Daily Telegraph
Glasgow Times
The Guernsey Press

Is that enough reports? Some are more reliable than others but there seems to be a consensus that it is true.

I am not sure it is helpful comparing the UK to North Korea or China unless you admire their totalitarian government style or the figures you get make you feel better.

Surely the more important statistic is how YOUR government is looking after YOU?

Hi

The Deaths are Government Figures, not media figures.

The facts are very simple, we have screwed up big time.

I simply do not understand why some will not accept that.
