I'm sure you would since it doesn't say what you want it to!
No wonder you'd rather choose a pro-EU British publication instead.

"Grandstanding" or not it is now nearing decision time one way or the other.
We have left.
All that remains is to see if indeed the EU cares enough about its' member citizens to provide a deal while removing obstacles which are unreasonable, just as they have with every trade deal the EU has ever made.

Meantime we are moving on, making deals and arranging to prevent EU criminals gaining entry automatically.
Let them range through EU-land unhindered - but they won't be coming here.

@ Solasch:

Do you remember saying that no-deal Brexit wouldn't affect The Netherlands much?
Well besides my explanation then of how wrong you were, here's a bit from your own DutchNews.NL
"Earlier this week, credit insurer Euler Hermes said a no-deal Brexit will deliver a sledgehammer blow to the Netherlands .......
and the Netherlands will be hit to the tune of €4.8bn, second only to Germany"

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/1...searchers-say/

Is this a Dutch equivalent to The Expess too I wonder?

I have my doubts Zaphod, Barmier has not said much more than he
said several times before? Such as it is now uks turn to compromise
and it takes two to compromise and suchlike euro babble!
He always insists that it is uks turn to compromise and that the ball
is in uks court now allthough he has NEVER given an inch?
Imo we should have made him wait a couple of weeks before
resuming any talks?
In fact l believe we need to leave without a deal before Barmier will
talk sense? And that once that has happened the eu attitude will
change! An if it doesnt then so be it !! We will have achieved our
independence and regained our fishing grounds ! Whilst they have
lost their second largest and most convenient export market ??
Its not for no reason that they derisively called uk treasure island??
The businesses in uk that depend on eu shuld take heed and start
finding other markets for their products and use brexit as the
stimulus to do this !!

Our thinking is along similar lines, have no fear.

BUT .........
I'm hoping that the recommencement of discussions is to assuage those screaming that the UK tries for a deal.

You're not alone in noticing Barmier's "weasle words" (and worse) I assure you, but this way the naysayers can't say we have not tried when it becomes obvious that the EU will not move on the level playing field; on access to our territorial waters; or on our in any other way being subservient to the EU.

At least I hope so; Nigel Farage and many others besides are keeping Boris very clear about what will happen if he instead produces a "fudge".
The Tories will not win another General Election for decades!
For that reason alone I'm maintaining my confidence that we will see a good outcome for the UK.

In your post, you quoted Sollasch as saying, "However, Speaking at an event in Dublin ahead of the eighth round of trade talks next week, Mr Barnier claimed the EU "has moved" on some of its objectives."

I was under the impression that the failed talks last week were the 9th round of negotiations not the 7th. If this is so, that would make the talks starting this afternoon the 10th round not the 8th, in which case Sollasch is wrong again.

Sometimes I resist for fear of appearing overly-belligerent.

I've just read that Monsewer Barmier was just setting off to come to the UK for these talks a couple of hours ago.
They don't exactly believe in early starts, do they?
I wonder just how long they actually meet for?
I hope it's more than a couple of hours, or is this what the EU idea of "intensive" means?

I think they try to create the impression that brexit is not a big
issue for them Zaphod?

That's the impression Sollasch is preaching all the time. Not that I believe him of course when I've read around the EU's main newspapers and TV news websites.

Especially with the way they all handled Brexit, pessimism is to be expected. It will not make for good reading in future references to history I'm certain.

But Boris knows that it's not just he that has too much to lose, it is the whole party! The GE with his "Get Brexit Done" huge win against what all the media forecasters and Europhiles tried to say proved to him the true feeling in this country.
Combine that with (like I said) the very real threat from Farage and he must know that they will be finished for decades if he makes a pigs ear of it.
