The CTA is the common travel area - again something nothing to do with the EU as it was set up in the 1920's. We have a CTA in the UK between England, Scotland and Wales as well, and so do other countries - it's not something exclusive and unique to Ireland, as the remainers seem to claim.

Neither Ireland or the UK is in the EU Schengen area so all border controls at ports remain in place. So whether you enter on foot from a ferry or from an aeroplane you still need to go through border controls. You also need to go through border controls between the island of Ireland and the UK, from one CTA to another.

The GFA is also nothing to do with the EU and the hard border on the island of Ireland was nothing to do with trade, customs or immigration. It was a security border during the "troubles" to stop and search suspected terrorists going between the Republic and Northern Ireland.

Today, there is no need whatsoever for a hard border between the Republic and Northern Ireland. The idea that it is needed because of customs or trade is a made up story by remainers who know nothing about how trade in goods move around the world.

To quote Wikipedia about Grimsby:
"The town still has the largest fish market in the UK"

While Grimsby no longer has the largest fishing fleet or lands the most fish, the history of when it did for many years is why it not only hosts the largest fish market and the largest fish action but it has this too:
"Greater Grimsby is home to around 500 food-related companies, giving it one of the largest concentrations of food manufacturing, research, storage, and distribution in Europe."

Depends on the way you look at it. If you are going by fish caught elsewhere Billingsgate the biggest market. Brixham claim to be the biggest fish market by value in England.

So no admission you were wrong and were talking about fish landed rather than markets, just a feeble attempt to deny a fact?

Billingsgate is the biggest inland fish market, not the biggest fish market but if you want to carry on suggesting that Wiki is wrong you go for it.

Fish markets and ports will change anyway with Brexit.

Billingsgate and Brixham differ anyway in that Billingsgate also supply species that aren't exclusive to the sea such as salmon and trout.

If we are talking about sea fishing then I would say we will see an increase in sizes of both markets but as Brixham is also a sea port, I can see more investment into there than Billingsgate.

As you can see by the figures Peterhead has the biggest landings in the UK by a country mile followed by Brixham. Does the fish not go on the market as soon as it is landed? Take a look at the video of the Peterhead market. One explanation could be fish is bought and transported to Grimsby where as you said there are big fish processing plants.

One of the great things about the fisheries bill, is that over 60% of fish caught in our waters must be landed and processed in a UK port. This means that for the big factory processing ships, it becomes unviable in terms of cost and for the big pelagic freezer trawlers as well. Same goes for the Dutch, Spanish and Danish flag boats who never see a UK port even though they are UK registered companies.

Of course, the remainers will still ramble on about fishing being only a tiny fraction of our GDP, but when you factor all these aspects of fishing (see the list below) you can see why it isn't and if they want proof, just look at the panic on the faces of the Dutch, French and Spanish over the return of fish stocks to the UK and the end of the CFP in UK waters. If it was that unimportant, they would be shrugging their shoulders and saying "so what".

Here is a short list....
1. Boat building, repair, maintenance berthing
2. Boat crew
3. Clothing and safety equipment
4. Fuel
5. Tools and equipment
6. Marine spares and boat chandlery
7. Fish landing (plus all the machinery and jobs that go with it)
8. Fish processing - jobs, supply chain, transport and all the equipment, catering, employment, pensions, company cars, work equipment, IT etc etc needed to run these plants
9. Tax revenues
10. Harbour staff, maintenance contracts, equipment investment such as radio, IT, communications etc etc
11. Port authorities - jobs, investment, new equipment, infrastructure etc

Then ...

1. Tourism
2. Restaurants, cafe's and pubs/bars
3. Fishing charters for recreational sea anglers
4. Fishing equipment, reels, rods, line, hooks, clothing (a £2 billion industry in itself)
5. Foreign tourism into the UK (as we do to place such as Norway, USA, South Africa and Canada)
6. Transport, fuel, motorway services etc

And thats just a list off the top of my head while I'm eating a biscuit.

There is loads more where that came from. The best sea fishing rods by the way are made in the UK - Century and Zziplex. There used to be Conoflex too but they went to the wall a few years ago. The UK is responsible for many sea fishing innovations from companies such as Breakaway Tackle, Ian Golds, Gemini Tackle etc etc.

Only one thing missing Bread ?
I know yu did say loads more to come!!

Do give it a rest.
Again - in simple English - landing a fish is not the same as selling it.

It is where that is in question, not when.

Why?
It's a fish market.
Do you just want to see video's of various fish markets now?

Whatever the explanation, that is not where you went wrong.
AGAIN, Grimsby is the UK's largest fish market according to Wiki.
Landing fish is a different thing altogether.
Why you cannot just admit your error I do not know, but you are not doing anything other than displaying bellicose tendencies with your persistant dissent.

The industry hopes they will, certainly.
The EU has (as in other areas) caused a severe decline in many of the UK's once extremely busy fishing ports, causing them to become amongst the most deprived areas in Britain.

Re: New EU Ferry to lreland !!

As far as Brexit is concerned we should be talking about the size and number of landings by UK boats, not where the biggest fish market is. Just my opinion of course, but claiming back our access to our waters and controlling our fish stocks is much more important in the broad scheme of things than just comparing sizes of markets where the products are sold. About half the fish are also imported into Billingsgate from outside the UK as well so its not really comparing apples with apples when you look at landings by boats in Brixham or Peterhead that have fished UK waters.
