Re: Mexico

Mexico is an interesting place to visit. Chichen Itza is very popular but to see somewhere that hasn't been restored a hike through the jungle to Coba is brilliant.

The complex at Chichen Itza is now listed on
The "New" Seven Wonders of the World.

I would like to see the jungle sites before they clear the area for the tourist trade. Car parking and tourist shops should not be up close to ancient sites. IMHO.

Re: Mexico

I don't know what facilities, if any, there are at Coba now, but there were none at all when we went. We were dropped off and had to walk through the jungle to get to the ruins, there was a path of sorts but it was quite hard going. It was worth it though, the pyramid was amazing and easier to climb up than to come down again, those "steps" have a much bigger drop than you think. There was a beautiful waterfall close by and it really did look like something out of an Indian Jones film. There was about 12 of us in the party, everyone else had been dropped off at Chichen Itza but I'm glad we opted for Coba, it was quite something having a picnic in such surroundings, really special and the only tourists to be seen was our little party and the guide who had escorted us.
