Re: Baked Beans

We have bean (pardon the pun) eating Batchelors wonderful beans all our lives and they have never changed the recipe as far as the wife and me can tell, they are fit for a king, delicious, tasty and nutritious.
They have a factory not far from where I live and employ 250 people, most of them local, long may they continue, they have been here since 1935 and are still going strong. EAT MORE BEANS! used to be a slogan of theirs years ago, then they had the two director type characters Barney and Beanie feature in the ads.

Re: Baked Beans

Baked beans is only good as an accompaniment to eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, soda bread and potato bread.

Re: Baked Beans

I find most of the '57' varieties seem to taste a bit odd nowadays. Have been buying Branston beans for ages now, flavour brilliant and sauce nice and thick too. I also like them as part of a 'full English' but also on hot buttered toast, or, and this is really tasty, empty beans into heat proof bowl, add slices of cheese and then 'zap', stirring the cheese in when done, then eat with hot buttered toast 'soldiers' dipped in. Yum.

Yuk, much nicer just on toast alone.

Re: Baked Beans

You can't beat beans on toast - especially with an egg thrown on top.

Re: Baked Beans

I add Maggi sauce to mine makes it a bit spicy and gives a bit of a kick. Mind you I'll put Maggi sauce on anything given half the chance....

Re: Baked Beans

Here in Australia you can get two kinds of Heinz Baked Beans - one is just labelled Baked Beans and the other is labelled Baked Beans English Style! We always buy the English labelled one on principle but still think it tastes a bit different to the ones actually sold in England.

Re: Baked Beans

Im in France Jaywalker and although the lable is the same inside the beans are totally different ..... plus they cost over a pound while back in the UK they are about 50p.
I have often wondered if they have a local factory making and canning them and just use the label, it would make sence as most of the beans come from this area.
