The best thing to do with frozen chicken which I am sure you now realise
is get it out of the freezer the night before then you wont have the trouble you have had

But since Joy has a microwave Sandy darlin' 20-30 mins in there with the microwave switched to 'defrost' and there would have been no problem anyway.

Just curious how do these frozen chicken joints they advertise from some shops work, cook from frozen they say ? Never had one and always defrost meat when I am cooking it so am curious about these time savers - cheaper too if Iceland is to be believed !
