Cat

Whilst visiting my drug dealer today () (Pharmacy) for my month's supply of medication, there sat a cat at the front doors.

I've seen this cat now on numerous occasions, and he/she regularly goes into the Pharmacy, takes a seat, and has a kip. Nobody seems to mind.

I think it's a she, so I'll refer to it as such. Tonight she was sat outside and as I approached her, I stroked her, she mewed at me, then she followed me inside.

Whilst waiting for my meds she came and sat on me knee. Folk were saying how well looked after she appeared to be, but one of the staff said that she's there from when the chemist opens, to closing time, then she strolls off but no one knows where.

When the chemist gave me my meds he said I could take her home if I wanted to, and I'd love to. It seems to me that, if she's spending all her time getting affection from members of the public, then she's perhaps not very happy with her home life, albeit she's obviously being fed. Nobody knows where she lives.

Now the saddest thing is, her tail has been docked! Whether or not this has been because she's had an infection which necessitated this extreme surgery, or it was done for some sort of gratification by her humans. I do know though that cats are exceptionally proud of their tails. She is not a Manx cat.

When I was leaving, I stroked her again and she gave me such a piteous look.

Any thoughts anyone?

Re: Cat

I know some people turf their cats out during the day whilst they are at work.
She might just be going there because it's warm and indoors. Difficult call. You could take the cat and leave your name and address with the Pharmacy in case anyone comes looking for her.

Re: Cat

Yes, that's a thought. I've never ever turfed my cats out as that's a callous thing to do.

The only problem is, if I did bring her home, how would Billie react? You'd have to have read the thread about Billie before replying as he was vicious when I first encountered him and I had to pay a visit to A&E after he attacked me, but he's been brilliant since.

He also antagonised my three then living cats trying to rule the roost and, as they were old and couldn't fight, they were scared of him.

He even made a play for Pepsi as she was a stunner, but she'd been spayed 14 years before so she wasn't interested.

It is a hard call but, if she's there again next time, I may do as you suggest, but I don't want to be accused of cat-napping!

I felt so guilty leaving her behind. She's one of the gentlest creatures I've ever come across, and extremely trusting of everyone, which actually bothers me.

If anyone came into my house when I had my cats, they'd disappear to the points of the compass, as they only trusted me - and Gordon of course.

Ah well, a "he" is a different kettle of fish, especially if he hasn't had his membership to the male populous rescinded. Male cats go walkabout, sometimes for days on end whilst they eye up the female talent. That's perfectly normal.

Oh no he's been seen to. he was a rescue cat. he also never goes outside. he went out once, got wet and has never been outdoors since. If the door is open he stands with his front paws on the threshold till he feels the first breeze then does a blacksmith and makes a bolt for inside.

So why don't you know where he disappears to? Does he go into hiding?

I went into the kitchen an hour or so ago and there was Billie, on top of my chest freezer, absolutely soaked to the skin. He really is a weird cat, but I have the feeling that wherever he lived before, he was MADE to go out after he'd eaten, but of course I don't make him.

Re: Cat

He disappears in the house somewhere. We've never been able to discover his hiding place. we have spent 2 hours looking for him once to turn around and see him sat in the middle of a room just watching us. He's a bit creepy like that sometimes lol
