Where will people live in the future?

There is such a shortage of housing it is estimated that the UK needs to build 240,000 homes a year, that is nearly one every two minutes.
In the short term the UK needs to build more homes.
In the longer term any housing strategy must also address demand.

Where will people live in the future?

Maggie should have thought of that - and everyone that followed her

They are still however occupied by people .

I do blame her for not allowing more housing built by proceeds of sales

Re: Where will people live in the future?

Hi

The problem as I see it is that most of the demand is in London and the South East, leading to stupid house prices and infrastructure melt down.

It costs the taxpayer a fortune in road and rail projects and housing benefits.

We need to somehow rebalance this.

The obvious solution is to make a start by moving the Civil Service and the numerous Quangos out of London.

Over 90% over Civil Servants never meet the Public, so no real issue.

I agree with Patsy we don't need housing we need affordable rental housing for people who will never be able to afford to buy a house. Council owned preferably from the experience we have had when they sold us off - bills for service charges are crippling people and we get less for our money than when the council was in charge.

I don't like blaming Maggie for it all as we had labour in charge for long enough to reverse that decision and they did nothing.

Re: Where will people live in the future?

Each county already has a Strategic Development Plan.
In my adopted country Worcestershire they are building a minimum of 28,370 new houses in the next few years the plans are already in place .
If you multiply that across each county where some are building more houses than here that is a lot of new houses.
They are building 800 houses in one place on the edge of my small town. This is going to bring it's own problems because the existing road structure won't be able to cope with the higher volume of traffic. It can't cope now with so much traffic trying to cross the river bridge at certain times of the day to access the motorway.

The problem out here in the shire villages is not just a shortage of houses but affordability of existing houses and a number of village houses remaining empty for half the year because they are holiday homes.

We need more affordable rented housing particularly for the young.

I can't say poor woman more like lucky woman she has so much, she has rather over reacted to a suggestion people could downsize IMO. It's funny when it is suggested council tenants do it we get a lot of people yelling about how they should get out of the bigger homes no matter how long they lived in them or how much love they lavished on them but we are supposed to feel sorry for this lady.
