Re: A living legend!

Yes, he definitely is!

One thing's quite obvious though and that is I reckon he must have had his operation carried out by keyhole surgery!

The alternative procedure, from the experience of a friend of mine, is known to take up to a year before pain from the sternum being opened ceases.

Re: A living legend!

I recall reading that the surgery was via the groin. And only local anaesthetic!
A tiny robot thingy passing right up through inside the femoral artery...brilliant method perfected by a French surgeon Cribier.

Cribier's technique, done under local anesthesia, is minimally invasive by comparison and has far shorter recovery times.

A surgeon or cardiologist accesses the femoral artery with an incision near the groin to insert a catheter fitted with a replacement valve inside a collapsed stent, and a balloon for inflating it.

The new heart valve, once expanded, pushes the old one out of the way and takes over the job of regulating blood flow

Truly, a modern miracle!

Tickled me when he was quoted as saying he wasn't a fan!!

Yes, definitely a modern miracle! This procedure cannot always be carried out though, it depends on any other problems that may be present. My friend had a weak aorta so had to have the more invasive procedure.

Something I do know from my own experience of another, similar procedure investigating a heart attack, is that it's so very weird seeing the inside of your own heart and arteries on four screens alongside the operating table, it's beating away and all I had was a sedative!

It's amazing when you can see what's going on inside you, isn't it?

I've never really been a fan of Mick Jagger but agree he is a very fit man and full of energy.

Well done to him for keeping that way.

Re: A living legend!

Love Mick and his music and so glad he's been fixed....
I also had half a dozen stents fitted using the same method as described earlier but minus the anesthetic. I watched the whole thing on TV.

I returned to running after about a month.....I think Mick has improved with age though and I would love to go to one of his concerts.

Never understood the appeal and i.ve never been a fan but it's good that he is recovering after surgery.
