Re: EU ups the VAT on energy saving measures
Hi
Once again we are our own worst enemies.
A quote from the article.
Ms Holland, who is taking part in HMRC's discussions, suggested using a loophole in EU rules that permits lower VAT rates on items used for the "renovation and repairing of private dwellings". This is used in countries such as France to discount certain refurbishment projects, including items not included under the British rules, such as boiler replacements.
Ms Holland said: "We're still working out what the exceptions mean in practice, but it is one possible route to keep the VAT discount.""
Nobody else in the EU has this problem, so why should we, just do what they do, problem solved.
I am fed up with our insistance on referring things back to the EU Courts, we are just stupid.
Germany has been breaking the EU Rules for years, noyhing has happened to them.
As for the EU Energy Firms over charging us, we were the idiots who sold our energy supply companies off to the highest bidder with any effective price regulation, which was a stupid thing to do.
Give the regulator some teeth, our Energy Prices are far too high no matter who owns the companies.
We are indeed known known as Treasure Island, but that is entirely down to us, not the EU.
