Basenjis are an ancient breed of african/egyptian hunting dogs, not reliable off of the lead as they will chase anything that moves, they have no road sense. They are barkless and don't have a doggy odour, they make other noises and are can be very vocal. They chortle, yodel and crow.
They are quite catlike, someone once described them as half angel half cat, they have loose skin with profuse wrinkles on their forehead (you only notice this when the ears are pricked), they are a square shape dog but high in the leg, they should be elegant but strong. They hate water, and dislike going out in the rain.
They are highly intelligent, quick to learn but only do things if they want or if they are bribed, they are very food orientated!
This is a very brief description, they are not a dog to suit everyone, but once you have one you love them!
