Re: Pictures you love
Easter Saturday on the Bogong high plains
By John Rawson · · From Pic of the Week
The weather was a perfect 17 degrees with a light or no breeze, and a warm Sun to brighten our spirits. My two adult children and myself decided to walk from the carpark near watchbed creek to visit four of the best huts in the northen section of the park as a day trip. We first went to Edmonson's Hut for our second breakfast, then on to Mount Nelse for the views.
Next hut would be Johnston's Hut for luncheon with its iconic red roof nestled amongst the snow gums on the eastern side of Mount Nelse.
After that would be Fitzgerald's and Kelly's to round off the afternoon.
At Johnston's Hut site I was just about to photograph the hut, from a north east angle, when out of the blue a small group of Brumbies thundered down the track towards us we were startled and so were the Brumbies as they glared in surprise at us before slowing down turning and galloping around the hut site. They did this for some time before settling amongst some trees about a hundred metres away back up the hill.
They stood still and quiet just observing us as we observed them, by now there were at least two other groups of walkers all enjoying and photographing these beautiful animals.
On the way back up the hill from the Hut we said goodbye to our chance encounter, but then the Brumbie's moved up and across the track ahead of us only to turn back again except for one of the mares who lingered about 20 metres away. We watched and moved slowly up the track and she also walked slowly across towards us.
She allowed my adult Son to get within a metre of her and then just casually turned away as if to say, "no more now", we walked on up the track and noticed that she followed us a short distance before leaving the track to once again graze the alpine grasses as if nothing had happened.
