I can't recall the thread now (it was back when I first joined) but this poor soul was seriously upset and concerned about something they wanted to talk about and halfway through the thread was a bunch of posts from one or two people going off in their own world about something or another (fluffy stuff, as it's being called) and it was rather unsettling to see the fluff being thrown about in such a serious topic. A couple of others actually asked the two "fluffernutters" (LOL, just made that up) to please be respectful of the OP's concerns and take their goofy garbage somewhere else.

In those cases - in the cases of serious topics where the OP is genuinely sad/concerned/upset about whatever the topic is - then I think it's disrespectful to jump in and start with the fluff, when it's sometimes clear that's not what the OP wants.

In other words, there's a time and place for everything and the fluff does not belong everywhere.
great post Linda. I hate to see serious threads being made fun of for the sake of it. its ignorant.

Re: Same old faces

Well a couple of people in here have suggested that the OP stress that it's "serious discussion only" and have the mods remove irrelevant posts. But really, they shouldn't have to. If I can't contribute something worthwhile to a serious post - even if it's just to offer condolences to the OP's situation - I don't say anything at all.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with conversation evolving. It's going to happen. But when it veers off into nonsensical chattering and 'fluffing it up' when the OP is clearly struggling with their particular issue, that's just not a very nice thing to do. Some may say they're just trying to "lighten the mood" or "cheer up the OP", but I know when I want to talk about something serious and important to me, I don't want people trying to cheer me up and lighten the mood. If I did, I'd ask for it.

I can't be doing with nonsensical comments on a serious thread.

Well, to be truthful, I lost most of them years ago. I gave up looking for replacements.
