From Wikipedia.

In 1919, during the Paris Peace Conference, the British prime minister, David Lloyd George, repeatedly brought up the idea of a Channel tunnel as a way of reassuring France about British willingness to defend against another German attack. The French did not take the idea seriously, and nothing came of Lloyd George's proposal.

Our idea so guess that is why UK expected as usual to sort out the French mismanagement.

AETA

Interesting that Lloyd George thought Germany would try again.
I think I'd re-word that slightly.

Our idea, so guess that is why the UK is expected as usual to look after them and fight the French battles for them.

What a pathetic nation.

Possibility could be changed.

A similar project in Bath proved popular when it opened in 2013. The mile-long Combe Down tunnel features an interactive light and sound installation and is now a tourist attraction in its own right.

The Monsal trail on the old Midland Railway line in the Derbyshire Peak District is now one of the national park’s most popular attractions. In 2016 more than 120,000 cycle movements were recorded by an automatic counter on the route, which opened in 2011 and runs for 8.5 miles between Blackwell Mill and Bakewell.

Threaten all they like.

Dire consequences indeed, well bring them on. We are up for a challenge, do your worse.

The solution shut it down.

Typical Frogs threatening, and now they've roped in our British unions. Quelle surprise!

I'd hope that Boris would tell them where to get off, but knowing what he's really like now, I'm sure he'll react in the French way and wave the white flag!

Mick Lynch, assistant general secretary of Britain’s RMT union that represents many of the company’s workers said that the service going under would be a "tragedy".

He said: “It’s bad, but there is a viable business there, struggling to get out from under Covid.

"If we’re not careful this will be another victim of Covid. This would be a tragedy for the service, for the connections, for the social benefit, the economic benefit, the business benefit.”
Covid is only part of the reason Eurostar is in financial difficulties, believe there is more to this than is being reported..

Too slow to adapt when pandemic struck.

It wouldn't surprise me that the real reason for their financial problems, rather than Covid, were to be mismanagement or even someone fiddling the books.

In any case, what is it to do with RMT (other than they're a left-wing union after all the money they can get)? Eurostar isn't British; it's owned by the Frogs. Let them sort it out. They've had 40 years of leeching off of us. We're out of it now.
