A Load Of Birds In My Garden This Morning?

I looked out of the window and saw lots of identical birds in my garden.

I had never ever seen them here before but l wonder if l describe them, would someone know the species?

They were similar to a thrush in size and colouring. Rather than speckles, the markings on their chest were more stripey. There was a biggish red area under their wings.

I am sorry that l have no pics but usually when l rush to get my phone, l get back and they’ve gone!

They were a lovely sight to see on my lawn.

Hmm, not sure - but you could try this RSPB Bird ID site to try and help. How many of them were there?

They are Redwings, Artie, a Winter visitor to our country. They are a member of the Thrush family.

Wow! Tiffany, I feel honoured as they don’t sound like a common bird.

Do you know which country they’ve flown in from?

(I won’t joke about if they have been in isolation! )

In some parts of England they are common in gardens in Winter, but we don't get them here in my area very often, usually only when it snows a lot, which isn't often.
They come from Scandinavia, they breed there in Summer.

My daughter has just rung me and l told her about the Redwings.
She wondered, if it’s because they have cut down the trees in a wood over a mile away.
This is to make way for the HS2 rail line, so many birds no longer have their natural habitat?

That HS2 rail line is such a terrible idea. If I had been down there, I would have protested long and loud against it!
