Re: Deaths BELOW Average ??

Prof Neil Ferguson, director of the Medical Research Council Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, at Imperial College London, said: "The new ONS data on deaths is encouraging in suggesting the second devastating wave of the pandemic is behind us.

"But calling epidemics 'waves' can be misleading* in implying a phenomenon which has reached a natural end - that is not the case here. The rapid decline in deaths we have thankfully seen is entirely because of the lockdown and the rapid rollout of vaccines. So while I'm optimistic that this we will be able to return to something more like normal in the next few months, we need to remain vigilant and cautious in the pace with which social distancing is relaxed - particularly given the threat still posed by new variants of the virus."
* ..... but graphic and understandable ..... beware the Fourth Wave .....

* That's 345 deaths a day.

2020 saw most excess deaths since World War Two

* That's 236 deaths a day that were "unexpected".

Hitler's Lufwaffe killed 40,000 UK citizens in 6 years of WWII; Boris Johnson's ineptitude has killed over three times as many in 12 months .....

According to Wiki........And not a German in sight...

The plague killed an estimated 25 million people, almost a third of the continent's population. The Black Death lingered on for centuries, particularly in cities. Outbreaks included the Great Plague of London (1665-66), in which 70,000 residents died.

And that was just in London... Was that Boris's fault?

I believe that I have only ever credited BJ with COVID-related deaths .....

Covid-19: 'Poor decisions' to blame for UK death toll, scientists say

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55820178

"A legacy of poor decisions" by the UK before and during the pandemic led to one of the worst death rates in the world, scientists have said.

After UK deaths passed 100,000, Boris Johnson said he took "full responsibility" for the actions taken.

Prof Linda Bauld, public health expert from the University of Edinburgh, said the UK's current position was "a legacy of poor decisions that were taken when we eased restrictions".

She told the BBC the lack of focus on test and trace and the "absolute inability to recognise" the need to address international travel had also led to a more deadly winter surge.

Prof Sir Michael Marmot, who carried out a review of inequalities in Covid-19 deaths, said the UK had entered the pandemic "in a bad state" with rising health inequality, a slowdown in life expectancy improvements and a lack of investment in the public sector.

He said the prime minister had been given scientific advice to impose lockdowns and "pushed that back" - not only in March but again in September and December.

The government also failed to create a working contact-tracing system, did not introduce effective health controls at the borders and still did not offer "proper sick pay", he said.

At Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Johnson said: "I mourn every death in this pandemic and we share the grief of all those who have been bereaved.
I and the government take full responsibility for all the actions we have taken to fight this pandemic."
There you have it - BJ takes full responsibility for the actions which led to the COVID-related deaths .....

BJ was in charge and he made the wrong decisions, particularly with regard to the eviction of the aged from hospital to care homes, resulting in over 30,000 excess deaths by July 2020.

Re: Deaths BELOW Average ??

The Covid death rate, although bad, pales into insignificance when compared to this one.

Spanish Flu between 20-50 million deaths worldwide.

As PM and head of the government, you would expect BJ to take responsibility. How many other world leaders or even company heads would do the same?

In the 15 years since the Iraq war, there have been 2.4 million deaths recorded as a consequence - has Tony Blair accepted responsibility for these casualties? No he has not. He did his best, and succeeded, in worming his way out any blame.

Don't forget that people have been staying home, not working, not travelling so much, not socializing & many other activities have been less.... which makes you wonder how many people would have died whilst travelling, getting illness transmitted from others, accidents at work or even stress from work causing heart problems.... even sports injuries!

We are all going to die one day & if we know how we would avoid it....but sadly none of us can be sure what will kill us... we just have to wait for our turn!
Exactly what I was thinking Twink.
