Ones Own Health.

I have had an ultrasound on Saturday....for my kidneys.
My calcium level is high.
I knew that I was lacking in vitamin D for at least 3 yrs.
I just left it, honestly out of ignorance!
I’m annoyed with myself.
I now have an emergency appt at 13.05.with my dentist.
My own fault,I kept putting it off.

Do you put thing off, regarding your health, please be honest.

I couldn’t sleep last night ,because of my throbbing tooth,it got worse over the week end.

No - I can be lax about a lot of things - but not my health. We owe it to ourselves to be responsible - but without being paranoid!

ST, Exactly.

I do have good health, just the usual age-related stuff... Well, we all get something!

I am not a hypochondriac but if l feel worried about something, l ring the Doctor as soon as possible, even just to put my mind at rest.

As for the dentist, l never miss.. not even during lockdown. I knew that all would be done to safeguard patients.
At this time in our lives, l feel caring for your teeth is so important.

Pauline, l hope all goes well at the dentist and l am sorry to read about your health problems.

Re: Ones Own Health.

Dentist out of the way, 500 mg of antibiotics ,tooth extraction next week.

I’ve got periodontal disease, the tooth isn’t bad, gums are my problem my gum has receded so much, there is nothing to hold the tooth,I will need a small back denture as well..

Nothing wrong with my teeth, they are healthy,I also visit hygienist every six months, I have no bone to hold my tooth in place ,unfortunately where it’s so loose it became infected.

Same here. I'm still trying to get a dental appointment at a local NHS dentist. One of the private practises in town is advertising for NHS patients but, when I phoned, the receptionist didn't know about it and asked me to call back next week.

Thanks, Art, they aren’t major,I know I will be fine, in future I won’t let my health go, I didn’t realise how important vitamin D is, when I spoke to the consultant who specialises in high calcium levels,I explained to him, that I was low, but didn’t realise how important that vitamin was, that is the reason why he thinks my calcium is high, for that very reason....so I’m now taking 800 units of prescribed vitamin D....if anything had been wrong with the scan ( emergency) I would have been notified.

I got away with it this time.....so won’t be taking any chances in the future.

Pauline, according to the NHS, it is too HIGH Vit D that causes the build-up of calcium, not the other way round.

Take a look at this from their website:

" People at risk of vitamin D deficiency

Some people will not get enough vitamin D from sunlight because they have very little or no sunshine exposure.

The Department of Health and Social Care recommends that you take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year if you:

are not often outdoors – for example, if you're frail or housebound
are in an institution like a care home
usually wear clothes that cover up most of your skin when outdoors

If you have dark skin – for example you have an African, African-Caribbean or south Asian background – you may also not get enough vitamin D from sunlight.

You should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year.

What happens if I take too much vitamin D?

Taking too many vitamin D supplements over a long period of time can cause too much calcium to build up in the body (hypercalcaemia). This can weaken the bones and damage the kidneys and the heart.

If you choose to take vitamin D supplements, 10 micrograms a day will be enough for most people.

Do not take more than 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day as it could be harmful. This applies to adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding women and the elderly, and children aged 11 to 17 years.

Mups, thanks for posting that.....I think my consultant from Guildford hospital ,who is a specialist in that area, knows what he is talking about,

I had a phone consultation,...had a blood test today, I have to have a fasting one as well, also a bone density scan..

Those 500 mg of antibiotics are doing the trick, for my nasty throbbing tooth...3 a day I’m on.....

They are right as well......I was lacking in vitamin D for 3 years...hence being on such a high dosage now, it can take up to nine months for the vitamin to build up and take affect my consultant was telling me.......to much vitamin D can also cause problems.

Re: Ones Own Health.

Mups is correct , taking too much Vit D is bad practice .
I know someone who has just stopped taking it , she had a kidney stone caused by calcium building up .
