Absolutely.
We should start to spend our money and resources more wisely.
Foreign aid should be the first to go, at least temporarily until we get back on our feet especially after lockdown.
Perhaps we should be offering grants to encourage new businesses to start up here, especially manufacturing.

If individuals who are that way inclined want to send charitable donations to foreign countries, that's up to them. It's their own money!

Your "fairly decent" local wine might have been (and continue to be) just that, but not the "excellent" that so many are now becoming recognized as.

Nowadays there are more vineyards growing more mainstream varieties of grape and more winemakers, and our wines are acheiving global recognition.
