EU Slaps Down Scotty

Australian PM, Scotty from Marketing, claimed it was all the fault of the EU that his random target of 4 million vaccinations by April was not reached.

On Tuesday Scotty said Australia's vaccine rollout had been hampered by supply issues overseas, claiming the import of 3.1 million vaccine doses had been blocked.

"In early January, we had anticipated we would have those 3.1 million vaccines," he said.

However the EU denied responsibility after Reuters reported an Australian government source had told them the EU had blocked 3.1 million shots of the vaccine.

The chief spokesman for the European Commission – the EU's executive branch – told a press conference on Tuesday (local time) that the only vaccine export authorisation request that had been denied to Australia was the highly publicised one of 250,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from Italy last month.

The initial shipments of the AstraZeneca vaccine were intended to boost the start of Australia's vaccine rollout, with local drug manufacturer CSL set to produce the 50 million shots.

Around 830,000 local doses were delivered in the first week of the program, but it is not clear how many have been released since then.

There are 2.5 million doses remaining in CSL's cold storage, awaiting batch testing by the medicine regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Scotty's minions are now claiming it is all "semantics" (they are now rushing around for a dictionary trying to find out what that means)

Wording like “We cannot confirm any new decision to block vaccine exports to Australia or to any other country,” and then saying that the EU has rejected only one of 491 COVID-19 vaccine export requests since it enhanced export transparency in late January, but then adding that seven requests were currently being reviewed and that those shipments were on hold until a decision was made aren't helping with what the EU thinks is a denial.
Because it clearly isn't.

"The EU cannot confirm" does not mean they haven't blocked exports.
It means what it says but we should note that there could be a huge range of reasons why they cannot, including that the powers-that-be simply do not want to.
I can't think why, can you?


Then if only one request has been refused, how come seven shipments ain't on their way?
This is a lifesaving vaccine.
Time is of the essence.
"We ain't refused it but you ain't gettin' it!"

From how I read it the EU are yet again just proving how devious they can be in their desperation to deny that they are no more than bullies.
After years of seeing how they have done the same during Brexit "negotiations" as well as to the Swiss, Malays and others, who can be surprised at such cynicism?

With the latest information about the AstraZenica vaccine it looks like the EU has done us a favour how ever many doses it banned.

I get mine on Monday.

The "favour" of having to resort to more expensive jabs which have the same problems anyway?
