I think it is the UK that has to do the backing down. But the EU granted boris saving his face for his own people, and why not? What happens internally is of no consequence to the EU, as long as trade prevails.

From your link:
However, Hansen added that a decision on when the full parliament would vote was deferred because parliament wanted to see progress on implementing the withdrawal agreement.

The deal's been signed by us Solly.
It's your lot that have yet to agree but if they don't it will lead to a greater degree of UK independence by your own admission, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say?

Other than that as per usual you're not saying much which is either relevant or accurate.

"Plunging our companies into renewed uncertainty would be irresponsible and definitely in nobody's interest," he said.

British negotiator David Frost will meet European Commission vice president Maros Sefcovic on Thursday evening. The Commission said the meeting was designed as a stock-taking exercise and to provide a steer for future talks.

Talks following which either side can pull the plug thanks to Lord Frost's insistence.

But the EU used the first face-to-face meeting since lockdown between Lord Frost and the*European commission*vice-president, Maroš Šefčovič, to warn that the outcome needed to be jointly agreed.

There was “no space for unilateral action”, sefcovic said, adding the threat of legal action over the UK’s*decision last month*to delay some of the border checks in Northern Ireland would remain on the table for “as long as necessary”.

After Thursday night’s meeting both sides have indicated the desire for a solution based on the protocol, which the Democratic Unionist party (DUP) wants scrapped.

The EU also highlighted what appears to be a lack of detail in the roadmap the UK delivered to Brussels two weeks ago on implementation of the protocol.

Re: UK backing down on the NI protocol

Hi

It is interesting.

Boris signed up to up, much worse than May, who rejected it completely.

We are not now just arguing with the EU, we are arguing with the USA and the WTO.

Boris cannot win this.

Re: UK backing down on the NI protocol

Brussels has granted a British request for an extension on a deadline to respond to a letter triggering the lawsuit.
says The Telegraph regarding the NI dispute.

They don't really have much choice, do they.

Wouldn't be fair now that the UK promised to be a good boy and implement the NI protocol!
