Spiders in my house!

Why are they so big?
Where are they coming from?
I catch them in tissue, then put them outside!
I can't bare the thought of them crawling all over me!

Re: Spiders in my house!

I had one in my bathroom last night.
I hate them.
Apparently they come indoors looking for a mate at this time of year.
They're "house spiders" they don't survive in the cold winter outside so they find their way indoors or into sheds etc.
Peppermint sprayed around is supposed to deter them.

Re: Spiders in my house!

We have one of those spider vacuum things that picks them up easily without hurting them.

Dongle, how do you get on with that gadget, do you find it works well?

I have thought abuot getting one myself, but the opening the spider goes up looked so small I didn't know if it would work on bigger ones?

What do you think please?

Re: Spiders in my house!

Last year I saw a few black dots on the cream tiles in the conservatory when I looked again there were loads more , closer inspection made me realise they were newly hatched baby spiders coming down on a thread . OMG THEY WOULD GROW INTO MONSTER SPIDERS , so I had to hoover them up , had I not there would have been dozens of monster growing spiders in my house

I did empty the hoover onto the grass at the bottom of my garden

It's an ordinary House Spider. Totally harmless.

These are the nasty ones, they are not native & shouldn't be here. They bite & if anyone is allergic to insect bites/stings their bites can have a nasty effect on people. I always kill any I see if they are indoors. Mostly only in the South, but they are spreading.
False Widow spider.

This might be worth a try. I also have the vacuum but it’s not very powerful and is only ideal for tiny insects.

This has a trap door and can be swung around on the wall when the creature is caught. Lakeland, about £13.

The one I use is this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Katcha%C2%A.../dp/B009PNXV40

Also available from Lakeland I believe. It has always worked well even on the larger spiders (I wouldn't use it in Australia Though ). It can also be used to suck up wasps and bees. If you don't like touching spiders then I would recommend it. The tube is quite wide.
